Getting Started

From first enquiry to first session

Starting occupational therapy should feel simple. Here’s what happens after you get in touch.

  1. Send us an enquiry

Fill in our enquiry form or email us. Tell us a little about your child, what you’ve noticed and what you’d like help with. You don’t need a referral or a diagnosis.

  2. We talk it through

We get in touch to hear more about your child, answer your questions and talk through funding, availability and whether home, preschool or school, or telehealth will suit best.

  3. Paperwork, online

We email you our intake forms and service agreement to complete and sign online — nothing to print or scan.

  4. Initial assessment

Your child’s therapist gets to know them through play, observation and standardised assessment where needed, and talks with you about what matters most to your family.

  5. Goals and a plan

We agree on goals together and explain our findings and recommendations in plain language. Where needed — for example for the NDIS — you receive a written report.

  6. Therapy and review

Regular sessions focused on your child’s goals, with practical ideas to use between sessions. We review progress with you and adjust the plan as your child grows.

What to have ready

None of this is essential to make an enquiry, but it helps us understand your child sooner.

  • Reports from other professionals — for example a paediatrician, speech pathologist, psychologist, physiotherapist or a previous occupational therapist
  • Recent preschool or school reports, if they mention your concerns
  • Your child’s NDIS plan and, if plan-managed, your plan manager’s details
  • An Allied Health Care Plan from your GP, if you want to claim a Medicare rebate
  • Your private health fund details, if you want to claim from your fund
  • A short list of the things you would most like help with

Paying for therapy

We can work with the funding you already have. Full details, including current rates, are in our fees and funding policy.

  • NDIS

We work with NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed, charging at the hourly rate set by the NDIS Pricing Arrangements.

  • Medicare

With an Allied Health Care Plan from your GP you can claim a Medicare rebate on up to 5 sessions in a calendar year (a gap payment applies).

  • Private health funds

Occupational therapy sessions are claimable from most private health funds — ask your fund about rebates on item codes 100, 200, 250 and 300.

Fees and funding details

Before your first session

What should my child wear or bring to the first session?

Comfortable clothes they can move and play in, and anything they use during the day — glasses, hearing aids, a communication device or a favourite comfort item. For school-aged children, a few samples of recent writing or drawing are helpful.

Can you work alongside my child’s other therapists?

Yes. Whether you are at the start of your journey or adding to an existing team, we are happy to liaise with your child’s speech pathologist, physiotherapist, psychologist, paediatrician and educators, with your consent.

Can sessions happen at my child’s preschool or school?

Yes. Mobile sessions can take place at home, at preschool or school, or in the community — wherever your child needs to use the skills they are working on. We also offer telehealth sessions.

What if we need to reschedule?

Let us know at least 48 hours before the appointment and we will find another time. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged in line with our cancellation policy.

Ready when you are

Send us a few details about your child and your concerns, and we’ll be in touch to talk through the next step.
