Assessment
An assessment is usually the first step when a family gets in touch. It helps us understand how your child is managing the everyday activities that matter to them — playing, learning, getting dressed, eating, writing and joining in with other children — and where occupational therapy can help.
Assessments can take place at home, at preschool or school, or via telehealth, depending on what we need to observe and what works best for your family. We will explain what we found in plain language and talk through the next steps together.

What to expect
Before the assessment we will ask you about your concerns, your child’s history and any reports from other professionals. The assessment itself combines standardised tools with observation of your child doing real tasks, and a conversation with you (and, where helpful, teachers or carers).
Afterwards you receive a written report that sets out what we found and our recommendations. If ongoing therapy is recommended, the report becomes the basis of your child’s therapy goals.

Mobile Therapy Sessions
We offer mobile therapy sessions so that your child is able to work on developing skills required in the home, at school, preschool or while in the community.

Telehealth
Telehealth sessions are available for clients who aren’t able to attend regular face to face sessions and offer flexibility for families who have a busy schedule, are isolating or live remotely.

Where does the assessment take place?
Wherever we can best observe the skills in question: at home, at preschool or school, or via telehealth. Some assessments are best done across more than one setting.
Do I need a referral for an occupational therapy assessment?
No referral is needed to book with us. If you plan to claim a Medicare rebate you will need an Allied Health Care Plan from your GP, and NDIS participants need to be self-managed or plan-managed.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes. Every assessment comes with a written report of the findings and recommendations. Report writing is charged in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements — see our fees and funding policy.
