ADL Specific Training
Activities of daily living (ADLs) are the self-care routines that fill every day: getting dressed, using the toilet, washing, brushing teeth and hair, eating and, as children get older, helping to prepare food. Becoming independent in these tasks builds confidence and takes pressure off the whole family.
ADL training breaks each routine into achievable steps, adapts the task or the environment where needed, and practises in the place the routine actually happens — which is why many of these sessions are delivered at home.

- Grooming / Personal Hygiene
- Mealtimes
- Meal Preparation
How sessions work
We begin by watching how the routine currently goes and talking with you about where it gets stuck. From there we might teach the task in smaller steps, use visual schedules, adjust clothing, utensils or equipment, or work on the underlying skills (such as balance for standing to dress or fine motor control for buttons). You will always leave with a clear plan for practising between sessions.
Where we can work on this
-
Mobile Therapy Sessions
We offer mobile therapy sessions so that your child is able to work on developing skills required in the home, at school, preschool or while in the community.
-
Telehealth
Telehealth sessions are available for clients who aren’t able to attend regular face to face sessions and offer flexibility for families who have a busy schedule, are isolating or live remotely.
ADL Specific Training: your questions
Do daily living sessions have to happen at home?
Not always, but home is often the best place because the routine, bathroom, kitchen and clothing are all real. We can also coach you through the routine via telehealth.
Can ADL training be funded through the NDIS?
Yes, for self-managed and plan-managed participants, where building daily living skills is part of your child’s plan goals. See our fees and funding policy for how sessions and travel are charged.
